Aidan Francke

I can say with confidence that my journey as an artist began when I was born in November 1999.

I am influenced by the cartoons I watched and the popular culture surrounding me growing up. Not only visually, but in the humour. They came from a now alien time, where children were exposed to fear and harsh realities. I would constantly try to replicate the scenes from the shows I watched in my own drawings. In a way, I continue to do so today. I inherited the identity of a novice ‘history-buff’ from my grandfather, who I would watch historical dramas and war films with. This began my obsession with the old masters of the art world as well as historical media.

My work focuses on Logo design, Illustration, Product Design, Motion Graphics and Video Editing.

Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to make a living on my drawing skills…but here we are!

Self Portrait

For this drawing brief, we designed a portrait of ourselves or a classmate. The portrait was a combination of photography and digital editing in Adobe Photoshop.

My portrait is styled after the Rococo art period, capturing the detail of the oil paint appearance. It includes some personal elements, such as a soda-brand sash and a videogame medal.

The final image is a Dictator-like rendition of myself with increased, saturated colours. The figure stares straight at the viewer, coming off very confident.

Bladerunner Trailer Edit with HUD

This an edit I made for a trailer of the film Bladerunner 2049. This project combined tracking, video editing and HUD design. I was careful to synchronize the sound and visuals.

I also created a logo build for the end of the trailer.

I made use of Adobe After Effects to create the logo animation and Heads Up Display which tracks the character. The clips were cut-together in Adobe Premiere Pro, the main application for video editing.

Branded Instructional Manual

Using Adobe Illustrator and InDesign, I designed a PDF manual to instruct the 1st-year students on how to create an effective portfolio.

The brief involved creating branded characters and keeping it all uniform with the Pearson-style. The characters of the student and lecturer were to help explain the text copy’s instructions to the reader.
